What happens at the first visit?
The sight test - exactly the same process that would occur at a High St optician i.e. patient history & symptoms are taken, vision is assessed using a standard Snellen sight test chart, internal & external examination of patient’s eyes, objective examination of patient prescription followed by subjective examination, focimetry of existing spectacles, intra- ocular pressure testing. If new spectacles are required, frames are chosen also at first visit- followed by recommendation of appropriate lens types e.g single vision, bifocals etc... Entire process including sight test & spectacle dispense lasts about 40 minutes.
Equipment used is all fully portable & following is a list: Standard Snellen sight- test chart, trial frame & trial lenses, reading chart, ophthalmoscope & retinoscope, tonometer, dilating eyedrops (tropicamide) & anaesthetic eyedrops (benoxinate), visual field screener, focimeter, sterile disinfectant wipes.
All we request of the patient is a room that can be darkened, an upright dining room chair for optometrist to sit on & an electric power point for the sight test chart to plug into.
What happens at the second visit?
The new spectacles are delivered to the patient's home address & tried on by the patient for the first time. Any necessary adjustments will be done at this time. There is an approximately 2 week turnaround time on new glasses that is from initial sight test to delivery.
